Apr 27, 2018He is preceded in death by his wife, June Franks Montgomery, his parents, Oscar B. Montgomery and Abbie Pittman Montgomery, his paternal grandparents, James Morris Montgomery and Virginia Bostick Montgomery, his maternal grandparents, Jeremiah Pittman and Talulah McElfresh Pittman, two sisters, Louise Marie Montgomery and Mrs. Eula Mae Montgomery Hughes, and his niece, Margorie Adair Russell. He is survived by two nephews, Tim Montgomery Hughes and wife, Leslie; Chris Thurner and wife, Judy; niece Noel Thurner and husband, Patrick Horan; great-niece, Abigail Russell Smith and husband, Eric and great-nephew, Timothy William Hughes and wife, Bridget.He graduated from Blevins High School, Blevins Arkansas and attended Arkansas State University, University of Oklahoma and George Washington University.He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and retired in 1966 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His combat service as an army pilot included the battles of Guam, the Philippines and Okinawa and the subsequent occupation of Hokkaido, Japan. Medals which he was awarded for meritorious combat service include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, the Air Metal with clusters and several others. Additionally, he had tours of duty in Korea and Germany. His contributions to the development and application of army aviation as an operational combat force in the army are among his proudest and most cherished memories.After retirement from the military in 1966, he excepted a marketing manager position with the Boeing Helicopter Division in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Later, he accepted a director of marketing position with Litton Industries in Washington, DC, which he held until he retired in 1987.He was a member of the Association of U.S. Army, the Army Aviation Association of America and the Military Officers Association of America. He was a former member of the Sertoma Club in Clearwater, Florida; Elks Club in Alexandria Virginia; Masonic Lodge 80 in Prescott Arkansas and the Shriners Alcazar Temple in Montgomery, Alabama.He was a lifelong Methodist.
